Performing artist joins Eagle Hill's STAR Collaboration
Meet Sam Hunter!
Sam Hunter is a singing, dancing theater maker originally from California but currently based in Berlin, Germany. As a director and writer, he aims to create a space where the audience and performers transcend traditional boundaries together. Sam graduated with BA from UC San Diego, after which he was a founding member of the Hungry River Theater Company, an experimental collective in the Mojave Desert.
From 2014-2017 he was the Artistic Director of The West, hailed as one of "LA's best theater companies" for their devised work. He was a German Chancellor Fellow with the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung and the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch. The results of that research were published as “How the U.S. States Could Fund Repertory Resident Theatres” in American Theatre Magazine. His most recent play, Wandersterne (an adaptation of Sholem Aleichem's Wandering Stars), premiered at the Vagantenbühne in Berlin in August 2021.
During his residency at Eagle Hill School, Sam will be exploring American Civic Religion and the rise and fall of empires through the legend of Elvis Presley.
