New STAR Artist joins Eagle Hill School
STAR Collaboration welcomes Sarah Elliott!
Our second STAR Artist (Students, Teachers, Artists-in-Residence) of the year, Sarah Elliott, has arrived on our campus! Sarah has been an artist and teacher for many years and has recently received her MFA in Painting from Boston University. Although Sarah is an American, born in Chicago, most of her life has been spent in other parts of the world: Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Mainland China, and France. Most recently, she was working as an associate teacher at The Painting School of Montmiral in S.W. France. Her artwork has been exhibited in the United States, Italy, and France.
Sarah’s work spans a range of approaches, subject matters, sizes, and media: mainly oil paint, charcoal, and watercolor. In everything she does, whatever its characteristics, she finds and values opportunities for learning and enjoyment that enrich her feelings and understandings about life.
"I choose to garner feelings of hope, joy, and empathy, both as a way of sustaining my own well-being and as a means of giving myself the best chance of helping others."
In her own words, Sarah says, “Living in a time of cataclysmic change, we have to cope with unfathomable global tragedy and the relentless hardships experienced by so many. In the midst of this, I choose to garner feelings of hope, joy, and empathy, both as a way of sustaining my own well-being and as a means of giving myself the best chance of helping others. I am grateful for how my evolving practice invariably helps me with this as I continue to clarify the purpose and ramifications of my work.”
Sarah will be living and working in the Eagle Hill School community through the end of March, and we are so lucky to have her here! During her residency at EHS, she will be working regularly with our visual arts classes, collaborating across disciplines, and pursuing her own artistic goals.
