Jed Geary, Director of College Counseling

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.A. in psychology, Jed Geary picked coffee in Hawaii, taught autistic children in Massachusetts, and taught English in Taiwan. He arrived in Hardwick, where he has made his home, in 1996. Jed has served as a teacher and chair of the pragmatics department and earned his M.Ed and license in guidance counseling, which he uses in his current position as Director of College Counseling. He has spoken at national conferences for college counselors (NACAC), boarding schools (TABS) and learning disabilities (LDA). Jed continues to play ultimate Frisbee competitively, has been on a national championship team, and jumped at the chance to start a team at EHS in 2010. Jed enjoys travelling to colleges all over the country and to tournaments with his ultimate team. Jed lives with his wife, Jessica, whom he met at Eagle Hill. They have two wonderful sons, Connor and Quinn.

Karen Goudey, College Counselor

Karen earned a BA in economics and French studies from Smith College and an MA in intercultural relations from Lesley University. Over the course of her education, she spent three years living, studying, and working abroad. Her passion for international education led her to pursue a career working with international educational exchange programs and then international student admissions. Karen has spent the past 17 years working in college admission - first at Emerson College and most recently Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) where she led the university's international admissions efforts and coordinated WPI's FIRST Robotics scholarship program. With her husband Kurt, she has helped to raise his two children to adulthood, experiencing first-hand their struggles with ADHD, executive dysfunction, and school-related anxiety.  They have also served as a host family for several international high school students through the AFS program.  Karen is excited to work closely with Eagle Hill students and families utilizing her experiences in admissions to assist them through the college search and admission process.

Jonathan Baker, College Counselor

Having grown up outside of Boston in Needham, MA, Jonathan graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, where he was a lefty pitcher for the Princeton baseball team. After teaching for a year in Columbus, OH, Jonathan decided to attend law school and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern Law School.

Jonathan enjoyed working at Worcester Academy for over 20 years, where he served as both Director of College Counseling and Director of Admission and Financial Aid. While at Worcester Academy Jonathan created and taught a history elective in Ethics, advised the Academy’s mock trial team, and coached baseball.

Jonathan enjoys cycling, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, trivia, and traveling throughout the U.S. Jonathan lives in Worcester, MA, and looks forward to the inaugural season of the Worcester Red Sox in 2021!
