Winter Sports Re-Cap
Pioneers finish the Winter Season with strong records and two new championships!
Congratulations to all of our winter athletes on a great sports season!
Before heading into our coaches’ recap, there are many people to thank for their time and dedication to our winter athletics program. A special thank you to our Athletic Director Cindy Coughlin and Assistant Athletic Director Ian Kelly for their hard work in organizing the season and always managing the weather-related schedule changes. Emily Doiron, our athletic trainer, was kept busy by our athletes all season long and did a great job keeping them healthy and, on the courts, mats, and in the pool! Finally, to our coaches, thank you for your tireless dedication and commitment to our student-athletes and the Eagle Hill athletic program.
Girls' Varsity Basketball
Head Coach: Kenneth Leyva
Assistant Coach: Gina Urbano
The girls’ basketball team enjoyed a rewarding season doubling their win total from last season. Most importantly, the roster of eight improved individually and as a team. These determined young women exceeded expectations with their commitment and hard work throughout the season. Kate H. led the Pioneers in scoring and blocks averaging twelve points and four blocks per game. Maddie E. led the defensive charge for EHS averaging five steals a game and led the team in 3-point field goals. Ryan Y. also starred defensively, grabbing five rebounds and two steals per game.
Lexi M-P. rounded out the starting five and proved to be EHS's most versatile defender by frustrating opponents with her scrappy and tenacious defense and providing needed scoring. The timely outside shooting of Daniella M. and Mikaela C. kept opponents on their toes and added more scoring depth for EHS. Rookies Claire L. and Angelia L. made their presence felt by contributing immediately defensively and offensively, respectively, for the Pioneers. Claire L. was second on the team with a rebounding average of six boards a game off the bench. Angelia L. was the bench's leading scorer and leading in field goals made for the unsung second unit. The future is bright with all members of the team returning next year!

The varsity swimming team had an amazing season this year, with six athletes qualifying for the New England Championships in our first meet! Throughout the season, the team competed in fourteen meets, a busy season for the EHS swim team. Despite their busy schedule, every athlete worked hard during practice and managed to improve their individual times across a range of events. Team spirit and pride were very high every meet, and the team received many compliments from their opponents and coaches about the positive and supportive atmosphere we brought to the competition.
By the end of the season, the EHS Swim team had qualified eight members for the New England Championships: Allegra L., Gabrielle L., Caitlin M., Olivia G., Bella R., Gabe W., Ayan D., and Sarah R. The team was led by an amazing set of Seniors: Caitlin M. and Bella R., both four-year veterans, who kept the team organized and focused during meets and embodied the highest level of sportsmanship in the pool each day.

Boys' Varsity Basketball
Head Coach: Jeffrey Myra
Assistant Coach: Jonathan Lagrant
The season started strong as the varsity boys’ basketball team won their first three games. They then faced some very strong competitors in the SENE league, and although the team struggled to win games early in the season, the group was improving with each loss. They went up against better players, which forced the team to grow in many ways. Their rebounding became stronger, the defense was more solid, and it forced the team to find other ways to score points. While the season went on, they captured more wins, and the team became more cohesive. As they entered their final week of playoffs in the RVAL, they were confident that they would be a strong contender for the championship cup, and in the end, that is exactly what they did! The team played exceptionally well in the championship game, and for the 3rd straight season, the team won the RVAL championship. They worked hard, showed up every day, and achieved the ultimate goal. The future is bright for each of the twelve players on this team.
Congratulations again to the 2022-23 RVAL champions!

Boys' JV Basketball
Head Coach: Cynthia Coughlin
Assistant Coaches: Charles Crossan and Griffin McDonald
The boys' JV basketball team had a rebuilding year, with many of last season's players graduating or moving to varsity. With only a few returning players, we had a young team of 8/9th graders. However, they worked hard and improved immensely toward the end of the season. Although the win/loss record was a bit lopsided, each player worked hard at practice and demonstrated that commitment and teamwork outweighed the scores. The team will look to return most of their players next year and hopefully work on improving even more.

Wrestling
Head Coaches: Shane Francoeur and Ian Kelly
Eagle Hill wrestling had another very successful season in 2022-23. In dual meets, the Pioneers reached twenty wins for the first time in program history and had an overall dual meet record of twenty wins and four losses. In addition, the team repeated as Eastern Independent League tournament champions. Other team firsts included the most EIL individual champions and the most New England qualifiers in program history.
More importantly, all the team members worked to create an incredibly positive group culture. Everyone was recognized as an essential team member and consistently supported one another as teammates. Congratulations to this group of young men and women!
We look forward to watching your growth next season!
