Triumph in Court
Eagle Hill's Mock Trial team shines in season opener victory against Mahar Regional School.
On Thursday, February 1, the mock trial team faced Mahar Regional School in its first trial competition of the season. Leading the team was Emma B. ’25, the team’s fearless opener who expertly laid out the defense case, preparing the way for fellow attorneys Maddy A. ‘24, Ayden B. ‘24, Hudson R. ‘24, Olivia F. ‘27, and Eli K. ‘25.
Each of the attorneys delivered carefully crafted and confidently presented performances. Of particular note was first-time mock-trialer Olivia’s hard-hitting cross-examination of the detective in the case.
The team’s three defense witnesses performed by Chip B. ‘24, Daniella M-M. ‘25, and Sofia L. ’24 (who, incidentally, earned the highest individual score for the day) displayed their clear sense of the issues in the case along with exceptional recall of the many complicated details of their testimony.
Closing for the team was Maddy who wrapped up the strong defense argument—and who, to her great credit, showed characteristic good judgment and fair-mindedness in allowing the opposing team to maintain their dignity as it became clear that EHS would prevail.
The final score: Eagle Hill 83, Mahar 41. The team’s next trial is scheduled for Monday, February 12.
