Spring Family Weekend 2023: “Arts on the Hill”

Eagle Hill families unite on campus for the school's annual Spring Family Weekend gathering.

Despite Spring Family Weekend getting off to a chilly start, we had a spectacular long weekend with our families celebrating the arts at Eagle Hill, including an art reception, the student musical production of “Working,” as well as sports and great food!

The weekend began with our Family Reception on Thursday evening in the Archipley Cultural Center and the Makerspace in the PJM STEM Center. Families gathered with faculty to view the creations of our incredibly creative and talented students from woodshop, art, pottery, graphic arts, and makerspace classes. In addition, the EHS kitchen staff treated everyone to some amazing culinary treats.

Friday morning, we kicked off mini school for our parents and families, followed by advisor and dorm counselor conferences and college counseling talks. Then it was on to a Family Weekend favorite tradition: the tailgate on Jordan Field. Always a highlight, we gathered and enjoyed a delicious buffet inspired by Cinco De Mayo while watching the varsity lacrosse team play against Dublin School.

One of the most talked about weekend highlights was the performance by the Eagle Hill Players of the musical “Working.” Based on Studs Terkel’s 1974 book of interviews with American workers and updated in 2013 with new music, our EHS drama students adapted the musical masterpiece even further–conducting their own interviews with Eagle Hill community members to feature on stage. Bravo!

On Saturday, EHS staff member and certified yoga instructor Donna Holden led a yoga class sponsored by the Girls Leadership Organization. EHS sports continued throughout the day on Saturday with our varsity spring rowing, varsity tennis, and varsity ultimate frisbee teams all having the opportunity to play for a crowd of students, parents, and faculty.

It was truly a magnificent weekend spent with new and old friends celebrating the incredible community that makes Eagle Hill School so special and unique.
