Investing in Knowledge: Finance Club Thrives!

Eagle Hill Students gain hands-on experience in stock trading, outperforming market benchmarks.

The Finance Club at Eagle Hill School continues to provide students with a hands-on approach to learning about the stock market and virtual trading. Guided by Mr. Thomas Hopper, the club has seen an increase in participants since its inception in the 2020-2021 academic year.

Fall Season Recap

In the fall, twenty-two participants took part in the virtual trading challenge, using $100,000 in hypothetical funds to make investments and track their portfolios over twelve weeks. Of these twenty-two participants, four were new to the club, trading stocks for the first time, and ten finished ‘in the green’ with positive returns. The standout player of the fall season was Ben S. ’27, whose strategic trades earned him a final portfolio worth $125,548, claiming the top spot. He outperformed the S&P 500 Index, which tracks the stock performance of 500 of the largest companies listed on stock exchanges in the United States.

Winter Season Update

The winter season continues with another round of lively competition featuring nineteen participants, including five staff members and three new members joining the club. The learning curve persisted for many, with only eight players currently in the green and four outperforming the S&P 500.

Mr. Hopper remains proud of the club’s ability to engage both students and staff. “The Finance Club is all about learning by doing,” said Mr. Hopper. “It’s rewarding to see both new and returning participants grow their portfolios and gain real-world experience in a controlled, low-risk environment.” Whether you’re new to stocks or already familiar with investing, the Finance Club remains a welcoming space for everyone to grow their financial literacy.  The Spring season of the Finance Club will continue after the February break.
