Eagle Hill Students Honor Martin Richard

7th Annual MR8K Race takes place in Boston in memory of Martin Richard.

Myles H ’27, Cole C’27, Tyler D ’26, and Evan G ‘27 traveled to Boston and participated in the 7th annual MR8K race this past weekend The event is dedicated to honoring the memory of Martin Richard who was eight years old when he lost his life in the tragic Boston Marathon bombing over a decade ago. A heart wrenching photo of Martin with a sign reading “No More Hurting People, Peace” spread online and became one of the most poignant victim images after the attack. His parents established the Martin Richard Foundation in January 2014 to promote sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness, and peace.

The race is particularly meaningful for Myles, as Martin was his cousin, adding a personal connection to an already emotional event. Myles expressed gratitude for the support he received from his friends and family. Joshua Kanozek, an EHS teacher who shared the students’ journey and their success at the race, stated, “This is a beautiful way to keep his (Martin’s) memory alive.”

The race was a scenic 5-mile course through Boston’s newest neighborhood, including Martin’s Park and the waterfront, winding through the Seaport District and ending at Cisco's Beer Garden. We’re proud of these students for honoring Martin and supporting each other.
