Opening Day, held Monday, September 14, brought together students, families, faculty, and staff for a series of events focused on student success, residential life, academic preparation, and community connection. The annual tradition marks the beginning of the school year at Eagle Hill School, a specialized independent boarding school serving students with diverse learning profiles, including dyslexia and ADHD.

The day began at the Archipley Cultural Center, where new students and their families were welcomed by faculty, staff, and student Orientation Leaders. Students were grouped with peers and introduced to campus life through guided activities that included dormitory move-in, academic advising sessions, and schedule reviews. These early experiences helped students become familiar with Eagle Hill’s academic expectations, residential program, and support services.

Throughout the morning, families explored the Campus Services Fair, which showcased key student resources, including the Health Center, Student Life, Athletics, College Counseling, and speech and language services. The event provided families with an opportunity to learn about the comprehensive support systems available to students throughout the academic year.

At noon, members of the Eagle Hill School community gathered in the Chapman Dining Commons for a welcome lunch celebrating the start of another school year and recognizing the newest members of the Pioneer community.

While parents attended educational sessions about the Eagle Hill experience, students participated in orientation programming focused on academics, residential living, student engagement, and campus culture. The sessions were designed to help students build confidence and establish a strong foundation for success both inside and outside the classroom.

One of the most anticipated moments of Opening Day was the annual Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Cochrane House. A longstanding Eagle Hill School tradition, the ceremony symbolizes the beginning of each student's educational journey at the school.

One of the most anticipated moments of Opening Day was the annual Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Cochrane House. A longstanding Eagle Hill School tradition, the ceremony symbolizes the beginning of each student's educational journey at the school. Joined by Head of School Erin Wynne, each new student rang the bell for the first time, a milestone they will repeat at graduation to mark the completion of their Eagle Hill experience.

The College Counseling Office also launched its programming for the academic year with presentations for students in the Classes of 2027 and 2028 and their families. The sessions introduced students to the college planning and application process while outlining the personalized support available through Eagle Hill's college counseling program.

For juniors, college counselors highlighted opportunities such as monthly college campus visits, the College Orientation course, and the development of individualized college lists. Seniors and their families received guidance on managing the college application process, understanding admissions requirements, and collaborating effectively with counselors throughout the year. The presentations emphasized Eagle Hill School's individualized approach to college preparation and family engagement.

As the day progressed, families said farewell and students transitioned fully into campus life. This important milestone marked the beginning of their residential school experience and encouraged students to embrace new responsibilities, develop independence, and form meaningful relationships with peers and mentors.

Students later attended the first all-school community meeting of the year, where school leaders reviewed the values, traditions, and expectations that shape life at Eagle Hill School. The gathering reinforced the school's commitment to respect, belonging, inclusion, and student engagement while helping establish a shared sense of purpose among new and returning students.

The evening community dinner provided an opportunity for students to connect in a relaxed setting and begin building friendships across grade levels and backgrounds. The shared experience underscored the importance of community and collaboration as cornerstones of the Eagle Hill educational experience.

The day concluded with a new student orientation session that addressed residential expectations, academic support services, campus resources, and daily routines.
