From courts to fields—Pioneers push through rain and snow for a winning season!

As the final whistles blew and the last volleys served, the 2025 spring sports season at Eagle Hill closed with triumphs, tenacity, and teamwork. From courts dusted with unexpected snow to fields soaked in spring rain, our athletes competed through every challenge with resilience and heart. This season was anything but predictable, yet each team rose to the occasion with standout performances and memorable moments and showed what it means to wear Eagle Hill colors with pride.

Varsity Tennis

Despite weather challenges and a turbulent start to the season, the tennis team delivered an impressive performance this year. Tryouts began under unusually warm 70-degree skies in March, but the favorable conditions didn’t last long. The team played the first match amidst snow squalls—a start that set the tone for an unpredictable spring. Rainouts and rescheduled games became common, but the players remained focused and driven. Whether facing frigid temperatures or making long drives to New Hampshire only to be rained out, the team maintained high spirits and used every experience as a learning opportunity.

Throughout the season, the team recorded individual and team victories. This year’s approach focused on strategic play over brute strength, and doubles teams worked hard to develop strong communication and collaboration.

Finishing the season with a 7-5 record, the team secured third place overall in the SENE. Standout performances at the SENE tournament included Anderson B. ’27 and Hezzy B. ’26 in singles play and Lauren C. ’27 and Evan G. ’27 in doubles. Hezzy advanced through several rounds before bowing out in a hard-fought match, while Lauren and Evan recorded multiple wins. Anderson delivered a memorable run, placing second overall after a close finals match.

Rowing

Over the course of the season, the crew team participated in four key races.

At their opening race at Dublin School, the team competed in four events. Boys Novice 4+ and Mixed 8+ both took first place. The Boys First Varsity 4+ finished second, and the Mixed 2nd Varsity 4+ came in third.

At their second race, the team faced hosts Bancroft Academy, Worcester Academy, Thayer Academy, and St. Mary’s Lynn. Boys Novice 4+ took first, and the Boys First Varsity 4+ placed fourth. The following race against Marianapolis Prep on family weekend, Boys First Varsity 4+ finished first, the Boys Novice 4+ came in second, and the Mixed 2nd Varsity 4+ earned another first-place finish. The crew team ended its spring season triumphantly, with the Boys First Varsity and the Boys Novice boats winning their final races against Lenox Memorial.

None of this season’s success would have been possible without the dedication of coaches Molly Gray and Becky Miller. Special recognition goes to Coach Kyle Nastasi, who served as an assistant coach.

Looking ahead, the focus is on building momentum. Plans are underway to recruit new rowers and coxswains from the lower campus, and the team will compete at major fall regattas, such as the Head of the Riverfront and the New Hampshire Championships while preparing to face league teams again in the spring.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse

The Eagle Hill boys’ lacrosse team wrapped up a rollercoaster spring season marked by fierce competition, standout individual performances, and impressive team growth. Despite a rocky start, the Pioneers found their rhythm mid-season, closing their final stretch with exciting wins.

Early matchups proved challenging as the team faced tough competition on the road. Trips to Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall, Mount St. Charles, and Rocky Hill tested the Pioneers’ resolve. Although they fell short in those games, key players began to shine. Cole C. ’27 consistently led the offensive charge, with Griffin O. ’26 and Henry H. ’28 providing substantial support.

The team came to life on April 16 in an in-conference matchup against the Dublin School. The Pioneers exploded offensively, notching their first win of the season with a dominant 20–12 performance. Cole tallied an incredible 10 goals, Griffin added 7, and Henry scored 3, energizing the team heading into spring break.

After a hard-fought loss to Bancroft upon their return, the Pioneers faced Mt. St. Charles and Rocky Hill again. Though those games didn’t end in their favor, they reflected how much the team had matured—narrowing scoring margins and fighting hard to the final whistle.

The closing week of the season showcased the Pioneers at their best. They secured a 17–12 win over Dublin during Family Weekend, fueled by offensive firepower and an unshakable spirit despite cold, rainy conditions. In their final matchup against Cushing Academy, the Pioneers returned from a 6–1 deficit to win 11–8, proving how far they’d come. Co-captain Cole’s rallying motto, “All gas, no brakes,” perfectly captured the team’s late-season mindset.

Varsity Golf

The EHS golf team wrapped up another successful season with a 9–5 record, securing second place in the SENE league. This year brought new milestones, standout performances, and promising potential for the future.

One of the season’s high points came during the regular matchup against CATS Academy, the two-time reigning league champions. In a hard-fought victory, Eagle Hill defeated CATS perennial powerhouse.

This year also saw the arrival of Mt. St. Charles to the SENE league, a new competitor with high-level players that raised the overall level of play. Despite this, Eagle Hill’s top athletes, Teddy H. ’26 and Jackson W. ’26, solidified their places as two of the premier golfers in the league. Finishing second and third in the SENE tournament, they were bested only by a standout performance from Mt. St. Charles’ number two player.

Head Coach Ward remains optimistic, noting that with continued development over the summer, several players could step up to strengthen the team’s depth and overall performance next season.

With strong leadership returning, young talent on the rise, and a growing reputation within the league, Eagle Hill’s golf team heads into the offseason poised for a serious run at the title next year.

Varsity Ultimate Frisbee

The No Horns ultimate team had their best season ever, posting an 11-4 record. The team was led by numerous seniors who brought three years of No Horn’s ultimate experience to the squad. The veteran leadership was palpable and helped the team gain early leads and maintain them. Early in the season, the team had to learn some important lessons about not forcing throws, seeing the entire field, the benefit of maintaining possession on offense, and when it is advisable to make the big throw. As the season progressed, these lessons began to sink in, resulting in better offensive control, which was often aided by a defense that stifled opponents and forced numerous turnovers. Eli K. ’25 (the quiet leader), Reese C. ’25 (the defensive player of the year), and Patrick M. ’27 (the rookie of the year) all played vital roles in running the defense, but every player contributed an important role in the zone defense they employed.

The benefit of experience showed on offense as senior Jack M. ’25 was frequently able to bail out stuck throwers. Noah S. ’25 consistently found holes in defensive cups to maintain possession, allowing the offense to reset or push the disc downfield. Xavier K. ’26’s laser forehand cut through defensive cups and strong winds for many goals, while Ethan H. ’25 covered a lot of ground on both sides of the disc, making key completions and big blocks, especially in the finals of the SENE. James B. ’25 was valuable on the front wall of the defense and also managed to sneak past defenders for some big catches in the end zone.

In league play, No Horns secured their fourth straight SENE championship over family weekend by overcoming strong MacDuffie and Dublin teams. They also had a strong showing in the RVAL, finishing fourth, which was the highest placement in quite some time. Thanks were extended to the players, managers, and families for their support and hard work.

JV Ultimate Frisbee

The JV ultimate team was composed of positive players who worked daily to improve their conditioning, skills, and strategy. Although their official schedule included only three games—which they all won—they also competed against the Putney and CATS varsity teams while the seniors were away in Florida. These matches proved both positive and educational, as players came to realize that self-confidence and a strong understanding of the game are equally crucial to success.

The team entered their first game nervous, uncertain of their roles, and battling cold, snowy conditions. The game itself was a valuable learning experience, with both teams gaining a better understanding of the game, how the zone defense operated, and how and where to cut on offense. Veteran players on the team were terrific, providing guidance and encouragement to the newcomers. The game was closely contested and went back and forth throughout. Putney tied it at 10-10, and when asked if they wanted to end in a tie and head back to warmth, the JV team chose to play universe point for the win. Fortunately for the EHS squad, they regained possession after an initial turnover, found the end zone, and secured the victory, enjoying a very contented ride back to Hardwick.

The team was full of hard-working, positive players, and Coach Geary is looking forward to the next season.
