Voices of Eagle Hill Parents

How Eagle Hill School transforms education for students with learning differences.

In October, Eagle Hill parents gathered over Fall Family Weekend and were asked to reflect on their child’s journey at Eagle Hill School. One word stood out unanimously across the board: transformation.

For many families, Eagle Hill School represents more than just a school—it’s a place where students with learning differences discover confidence, independence, and genuine joy in learning. In this article, we are excited to share insights from Eagle Hill parents about their children’s academic and personal growth.

A Community of Belonging

Our daughter finally found her people—friends and teachers who see the brilliance within her.”

Belonging plays a powerful role in a student’s academic and emotional growth. At Eagle Hill, the community works together to create a supportive environment where students are welcomed, understood, and encouraged to approach challenges as opportunities for growth.

Raising Independent Students

My son has experienced transformational independence and intellectual growth during his time at Eagle Hill.”

Independence and confidence don’t happen by accident—they’re fostered through consistency, accountability, small class size, and teachers who go the extra mile. Boarding students receive additional support from faculty and dorm parents, learning self-care, responsibility, and independence in a structured, nurturing environment.

Understanding Learning Differences

Many parents shared that before Eagle Hill, their child’s potential was often hidden behind frustration and misunderstanding.

Before Eagle Hill, our daughter thought she was the problem. In truth, her previous school simply didn’t know how to teach a child with learning differences.

There is such relief and hope that come when a student finally finds the right environment. As one parent notes, "The right school can change a child’s life—and Eagle Hill is that school."

Putting Students in the Driver’s Seat

Transformation at Eagle Hill goes beyond academics.

"Eagle Hill has not only provided a supportive environment where my child can learn, but has helped empower her to take control of her own academic journey."

Every lesson is designed to build self-advocacy, helping students discover their voice and power as learners. Families see their children stepping into entirely new versions of themselves. As one parent writes, “Eagle Hill gives my child the freedom to explore every aspect of her potential—from academics and athletics to the arts—empowering her to become her best self.” Whether scoring a goal, performing in a play, or mastering a subject once thought impossible, every success builds strength and prepares them for what’s next beyond the classroom.

Unlocking Student Potential

"My son struggled with learning and staying on task. Now he is on a path for a future we never thought possible. Most importantly, he is happy, confident, and knows his future is limitless."

Transformational education for students with learning differences begins with seeing the whole child—strengths, challenges, and potential. At Eagle Hill School, we take the time to understand how each student learns best, creating pathways for growth that build confidence, independence, and self-belief.

This is the heart of unlocking student potential: helping learners recognize that they are capable, bright, and equipped for success. As students experience academic achievement and personal growth, they begin to envision futures they thought were out of reach—and gain the confidence to pursue them.

Guided by Our Core Values

At Eagle Hill School, transformational education is grounded in our core values of Honesty, Respect, Kindness, and Purpose. These principles shape our classrooms, dorms, and community, creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel known, valued, and empowered.

Education at Eagle Hill is about more than grades—it’s about nurturing the whole child, celebrating progress, and encouraging students to embrace their potential. Within this community, students are given the space and support to grow into the individuals they were meant to be and to thrive far beyond Eagle Hill.

What is Learning Diversity About?

Learning Diversity is a blog hosted by Eagle Hill School where educators, students, and other members of the LD community regularly contribute posts and critical essays about learning and living in spaces that privilege the inevitability of human diversity.

The contributors of Learning Diversity come together to engage our readers from a variety of disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, biological sciences and mathematics, athletics, and residential life. Embracing learning diversity means understanding and respecting our students as whole persons.
